Restoring hope with dignity

Safety and Responsibility Programs for Adults (18+) with Sexual Behavior Problems

Outpatient Safety and Responsibility Programs

JJPI provides services for adults with sexual behavioral problems, including charges of and/or conviction of a sexual offense.

Since 1955, The Joseph J. Peters Institute has been working with adults with sexual behavioral problems, including those charged with or convicted of sexual offenses.

Our work requires a strong belief in recovery and restoration on both the part of the individuals being treated and also by our multi-disciplinary therapy team. Our ultimate goal is to help individuals live safe and healthy lives.

JJPI uses evidence-informed treatment practices consistent with those defined by the Association of Treatment of Sexual Abusers (ATSA) standards.

The individuals we serve undergo a full comprehensive evaluation supervised by a licensed psychologist and/or psychiatrist with expertise in the treatment of individuals with sexual behavior problems. Evaluation is followed by assignment to a group and/or individual therapist. Cognitive-behavioral and relapse prevention group therapy is used in most cases and is also coupled with individual therapy when deemed clinically appropriate. Psychiatry services are available on site.

JJPI recognizes that treatment is part of a process of accountability and healing for the individual, family and community and that in some cases management of the factors that contribute to sexually abusive behavior may be a long-term process. We are committed to a process that supports individuals to live healthy, responsible and accountable lives in a treatment/recovery culture of dignity and respect.

Adult Partial Hospitalization Program

The Joseph J. Peters Institute recognizes that individuals with serious and persistent co-morbid psychiatric illness, developmental disabilities, and other serious impairments who also demonstrate sexual behavior problems need more support than is received on a traditional outpatient basis. To better serve these individuals, we offer a therapeutic day partial hospitalization program that addresses these needs.

The program serves adults (18 years and older) who have various social, emotional, and behavioral problems along with a history of sexual misconduct. The program is in operation Mondays through Fridays, five days per week.

The program is designed to provide psychiatric, sexual, psychological, social, and recreational assessment and rehabilitation and focuses on strengthening individuals’ ability to cope with stressors that accompany community living, with the ultimate purpose of eliminating sexual misconduct.

The program's primary modality is group therapy but participants also receive individual therapy sessions with a masters-level individual therapist at least once every two weeks. The program also offers limited case management support.
